WORKSHOP ON GEONETCast DATA STREAMS FOR ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT

As a side event of INCOGaD, The Earth Observation Research & Innovation Centre (EORIC) at the University of Energy and Natural Resources (UENR), Sunyani, will organize a training workshop designed to introduce participants to the basic concepts and operational skills necessary to acquire and use products obtained through the GEONETCast system and to apply them for Climate, Water and Environmental applications. The emphasis will be on applications for Water and Food Security and Environmental Monitoring.

Components

Introduction to Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and Remote Sensing (RS)

Practical – GIS and RS with Open Software

Introduction to GEONETCAST data system

Case Studies (Water, Health, Energy, Agriculture, Biodiversity, Ecosystems, Disasters, Weather and Climate)

Submission of Case Studies & Evaluation

Target Group

The workshop is developed for professionals which include staff of the Ministries of Water, Energy, Agriculture, Environment and Rural Development and Researchers in Water Resources, Agriculture, Environmental and Natural Resources Management, Meteorology, Geo-information and Remote Sensing Scientists who want to use near real time geospatial data for monitoring and planning purposes.

What will be achieved?

You will learn how to set-up a GEONETCast system, and develop technical skills on data retrieving methods, product content and data analyses related to water and environment. Participants can select a number of case studies to review the methodology and applicability of the Earth Observation data.

Why choose this workshop?

The workshop gives you practical skills and up-to-date knowledge on how to monitor natural resources from space. With the open source software you can easily build your own applications and analyses schemes related to your interest. Through the case-studies the whole trajectory from image to product is demonstrated. On completion, you can become the focal point for Earth Observation data within your organization.
